The Purple Line

The Purple line is an is a 16 mile light rail being built in the DC suburbs, linking several Maryland communities (www.purplelinemd.com). The project was to design one of the stations that will be located in Chevy Chase, MD. The design task was to create a station that conforms to the overall Purple Line specifications but to also blend in to the community and not be intrusive to the environment. The design created here was one built to funnel rainwater through the canopies shaped like flowers and create shading as well. The base would have access through an elevator/stairs and a ramp as it also includes a bike path located on the Cresent trail. Through the base, one will be able to pass through to access both directions of the line. Far off in the distance is the diagonal street, Connecticut Avenue that is accurate to the map in Chevy Chase. This architectural project provoked the idea of abstraction and convenience, combining the best of both worlds.
